Ontario is the home to Toronto, the largest city in the country, as well as Ottawa, the nation's capital. But what makes Ontario stand out is its extensive stretches of wilderness, pristine lakes, and Niagara Falls, one of Canada's most popular natural attractions. Learn more at Tourist Guide to Must Visit Places in Ontario.

The West Edmonton Mall

For ardent hikers, covering the entire 890 kilometres of the Bruce Trail is a must-do. It extends northward all the way to Georgian Bay on Lake Huron, from the impressive Niagara Falls. Fortunately for the rest of us, this challenging hiking trail can be divided into smaller sections that are ideal for bite-sized trips.

Given its location on the Niagara Escarpment, which has been named a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, Hamilton serves as the ideal starting point for hikers who want to explore one of this trail's most picturesque stretches. You'll cross some of the most impressive waterfalls on the escarpment along the journey, like the charming Canterbury Falls. The Bruce Trail directly crosses the falls, which are situated in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area a short distance west of Hamilton's central business district.

Dundurn Castle

In Canada, Dundurn Castle, which was constructed in 1835, is the closest thing to an actual manor house in the Regency style. Its spectacular Neoclassical design, especially the four enormous pillars at its main entry, is its most outstanding feature. It has more than 1,700 square metres of living area and over 40 rooms. This stunning structure was Sir Allan MacNab's residence before he was elected Canada's first prime minister in 1854. Its construction included numerous advancements like running water and gas lighting.

The building, which the City of Hamilton bought about 1900, has undergone meticulous restoration to resemble how it would have appeared in 1855. The original furnishings and décor, as well as the historical tales and anecdotes related by the knowledgeable costumed guides, are the highlights of a visit. You can view the house adorned for Christmas if you go in the winter.

Be sure to tour the grounds as well as the inside of the building. You'll pass the magnificent folly, a two-acre kitchen garden that is still in use, and an old coach house along the way (now a shop). There are also free garden tours that come highly recommended.

Elk Island National Park & Beaver Hills

Many of the most picturesque of the more than 100 waterfalls on the Niagara Escarpment can be found inside the Hamilton city boundaries. The magnificent Albion Falls, often known as "lover's jump," is the most well-known of these. This cascade falls, which is over 20 metres tall, is situated where Red Hill Creek, which rushes quickly, crosses an escarpment. Along the way, it passes over several downhill stairs, which greatly enhance its attraction. From King's Forest Park, you may enjoy some of the nicest vistas.

By taking the clearly defined routes, one can access additional Hamilton waterfalls. The "Great Falls Loop" is one of the most well-liked routes. This lovely 3.5-kilometer escarpment walk passes by Great Falls and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Tews Falls is also a sight to behold. The best time to visit the Webster's Falls Conservation Area in Dundas is during the warmer months to take in the 41-meter-tall ribbon waterfalls.

Other noteworthy waterfalls to see include the 21-meter-tall Tiffany Falls, the picturesque Webster's Falls, which stands 22 metres tall, and the 37-meter-tall Devil's Punch Bowl, which is situated in the same name conservation area.

Bayfront Park

Hamilton's waterfront has undergone an extensive revitalization effort over the past ten or so years. It was often thought of as something of an industrial wasteland because it was once, and in certain sections still is, home to heavy industry. The focal point of this rehabilitation is Bayfront Park, which is situated at the western end of Hamilton Harbour and was formerly a dump but has been converted into one of the city's most beautiful green spaces.

It's a lovely spot to explore, encircled by a system of flat pathways, some of which are bike-friendly, that link to six additional acres of parkland at Pier 4 Park. If you continue on the Waterfront Trail, you can go even further. The 1,800 metres of shoreline highlights include a natural fish habitat, a kid-friendly sandy beach, a public boat launch (plus a close-by marina), and lots of parking.

Additionally, the fishing is excellent here, so make sure your permit is current. For information on the numerous concerts and festivals held here during the summer, consult the city's events calendar.

The Art Gallery of Alberta

Visual arts with an emphasis on Western Canada are the focus of the Art Gallery of Alberta in Edmonton, which is a twisting modernist building on Sir Winston Churchill Square. In addition to rotating and portable shows, the gallery maintains a substantial collection of more than 6,000 artefacts.
